Richard has done well over a 100 jury trials and has handled nearly every type of case one can imagine, including capital cases as both a prosecutor and defense counsel. His practice includes insurance coverage, insurer bad faith, personal injury, civil rights, arson, and construction litigation.

Richard is the author of Louisiana Liability and Property Insurance Coverage: A Handbook for the Busy Practitioner and recently competed the third edition of the handbook.  Please click here for more information.

He has authored “Challenging the Law Enforcement Expert” which appeared in the November 2001 issue of For the Defense published by the Defense Research Institute. For years, he has written the Louisiana insurance law newsletter for clients of the Onebane Law Firm. In addition to countless client workshops, he has given lectures on insurance law, trial tactics, civil rights litigation, and other legal topics for the Louisiana Claim Association, the Lafayette Bar Association, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Lorman Education Services, and the LSU Law Center. He most recently presented on insurance coverage for the 2015 Recent Developments Seminar in Lafayette.

Before joining the Onebane Law Firm in 1981, Richard worked from 1977 through 1981 as an Assistant District Attorney in New Orleans in the Career Criminal Bureau, which targeted criminal defendants with extensive criminal arrest and conviction records. During this time, he also served as an instructor in the trial advocacy program at Tulane University Law School.

He is a graduate of the University of New Orleans and the Louisiana State University Law Center. While in college, he worked summers as a proofreader at the New Orleans Times-Picayune. On a personal note, he was born and raised in New Orleans (which everybody in the firm knows), attended Brother Martin High School (so those from New Orleans do not have to ask), and cites as incontrovertible proof of his steadfast character being a long-time fan of the New Orleans Saints.
